Hey everyone!

Last week we released updates of our browser addons for Chrome and Firefox. The update is mostly focused on performance tuning, but we added one feature that a lot of you requested - adding things to GetGlue index.

Say you are searching for a movie and you can’t find it. Visit this movie page on IMDB or any other web site that GetGlue knows about. Then click the Glue bookmarklet and choose Add to Glue Index option. The movie will be instantly added to our index and if you search again there will be a match.

Add to Glue index

Please be sure to update your addons to try this out: Firefox and Chrome.

We have rolled out an update of GetGlue API, which now includes support for outputting object queries in Facebook Open Graph Protocol format.

This is an adapter, that takes any URL from over 300 sites that GetGlue supports and outputs meta data using Facebook Open Graph Protocol in either XML or JSON.

Here is how it works (make sure you are logged into your GetGlue account before clicking on the link):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892769&r=fog&format=json

gives you:

{"opengraph":
{"og:title":"How to Train Your Dragon",
"og:type":"movie",
"og:url":"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892769",
"og:description":"As the son of a Viking leader on the cusp of manhood, shy Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third faces a rite of passage: He must fight and kill a dragon to prove his warrior mettle. But when the first dragon he can snare is a paltry, toothless beast, his trial doesn't go as planned.",
"og:GetGlue_ID":"movies/how_to_train_your_dragon/dean_deblois"}}

This means that you can take a URL of any page that GetGlue understands and get meta data using Facebook Open Graph Protocol without doing any coding.

What is also important, is that you will get the same metadata for the same object, regardless of the URL you provide. Try How to Train Your Dragon on Yahoo! movies:

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809998233/info&r=fog&format=json

This works, because GetGlue correctly resolves URLs from dozens of movie sites to be the same actual movie object. Here are more examples, one for each object type that GetGlue supports:

Album (via Last.fm):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.last.fm/music/Radiohead/In+Rainbows&r=fog&format=json

Book (via Amazon):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.amazon.com/Girl-Dragon-Tattoo-Vintage/dp/0307454541&r=fog&format=json

Gadget (via Apple.com):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.apple.com/ipad&r=fog&format=json

Movie Star (via People Magazine):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.people.com/people/brad_pitt&r=fog&format=json

Recording Artist (via Pandora):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.pandora.com/music/artist/radiohead&r=fog&format=json

Restaurant (via Four Square):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://foursquare.com/venue/931&r=fog&format=json

Topic (via Wikipedia):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architecture&r=fog&format=json

TV Show (via Hulu):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.hulu.com/the-simpsons&r=fog&format=json

Video Game (via Gamespot):

http://api.getglue.com/v2/object/get?objectId=http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/skate2workingtitle/index.html&r=fog&format=json

One last thing to note, is that all requests output og:GetGlue_ID - a unique key for the given object in GetGlue world. This key is used by GetGlue API, so you can get more information about the object, as well as used for a page on GetGlue.com:

http://getglue.com/movies/how_to_train_your_dragon/dean_deblois

Give this a try and please send us examples of how you are putting this to use.

We pushed an update to GetGlue.com this morning with a couple of fixes and tweaks, following our recent big release.

We also made a change to the home screen, which we are very excited about and would like to share with you. When you login you will see two new sections: personalized new releases and most recommended:

screen-shot-2010-05-06-at-93447-am

In both sections, you will see top picks - the most relevant movie, album or a book, based on all your previous likes. When you click on an entry you will be taken to the corresponding filtered view of your Glue suggestions.

For example, if you click on a movie under new releases, you will see all new movies, sorted by priority for you. Or if you click on an album under Most Recommended, you will land on the Most Recommended albums suggestions.

Check it out and please let us know what you think.

Hey everyone, we are really excited to announce a significant update to GetGlue.com, one that includes: personalized new releases for each user; real-time suggestions; the ability to quickly decide if a book, a movie, or album is for you; and a re-imagined user interface.

Personalized New Releases:

Every week, GetGlue scans new releases in movies, music, and books and highlights the ones that are most relevant to you based on what you already like. This ensures that you will not miss a new movie in your favorite genre, a new album by your favorite band or a book on an important topic again. To access new releases, click Suggestions menu and New Releases filter in the sidebar.

Real-time Recommendations:

GetGlue keeps updating your recommendations in real-time. As you like more on the system, the movies, music, and books that are most relevant to you bubble up to the top. This feature makes it easy for you to pick the next book to read, movie to watch, or band to listen to. Just go to Suggestions and then click Most Recommended filter to see the most relevant suggestions.

Is this for me?

When you visit a movie, an album, or a book on GetGlue.com or around the web, GetGlue shows you similar things that you’ve already liked, reviews from your friends, neighbors with similar tastes, and the entire GetGlue community. You can instantly decide if the movie, album, or book is for you.

New Activity Streams

The new streams compress activity from users over one day. For example, if a friend liked 50 movies in one day, there will be a single entry in your stream highlighting the most recent ones and giving you the ability to explore more.

Before, you might have missed an update from one friend, because another one was very active on the service. Now, all updates are compact and you will be able to see what all of your friends are up to.

Streams also include more information, such as stickers and guru updates, votes and subscriptions. You can also now reply and vote on each stream entry without leaving the page.

New User Experience

GetGlue.com has been re-skinned and re-imagined to be bigger, shiner, simpler, and more fun. Everything is focused to help you get to places faster and be entertained. From large covers to streamlined menus and a new Explore section, we re-worked the site to help you better connect with friends and find your next favorite thing.

Please take the new GetGlue.com for a spin. We are looking forward to your feedback!

Your friends and family want tips about books, music and movies. At the parties, in the subways and at the family dining table we often hear: have you seen any good movies lately? What are you reading? Have you discovered any new music? Well, we recently reworked one of Glue features to make sending stuff you find to friends as easy as pie.

You will find Tell Friends on every object page - whether it is a movie, a book, a tv show, an album or even a topic. When you click this button, you will get an overlay with great sharing options. By default you can send the object to your Glue subscribers, as well as to your Twitter and Facebook friends. All you need to do is type in the message and hit send.

picture-22

You can also send it to individual Glue users or friends and family via email. Click Send to Individuals link on the bottom. You can now type in either the name of the Glue user or an email of someone who does not (yet!) use Glue. For example, in the screenshot below, I typed Fraser - a GetGlue username - and then I typed iskold at gmail dot com, which is my dad’s email address.

picture-23

When my dad gets the email, it will look like this:

picture-24

So check out this feature and start recommending cool stuff to your friends and family with style!
