It is my pleasure to announce here the first episode of Semantic Web Gang - a podcast focused exclusively on Semantic Web. The gang is put together by Paul Miller, an evangelist from Talis and includes Tom Heath, also from Talis, Greg Boutin from stealth mode startup in Canada, Mills Davis of Project 10X, Daniel Lewis of OpenLink, Thomas Tague of Reuters and yours truly.
The first episode was focused on readiness of Semantic Web for commercialization, inspired by recent interview with Sir Tim Bernes-Lee. This was a one our podcast with a diverse group of people expressing a range of opinions on the topic. I enjoyed the discussion very much and highly recommend that you listen to the podcast.
In the end of the call we discussed topics for future episodes. I suggested that we focus on distilling the essential patterns that we are seeing around Semantic Web technologies. Defining things, clarifying what is what, breaking things down and distilling the essence will be one of the focuses of the podcast going forward.
Coincidentally, I was planning the post on ReadWriteWeb on the same topic - Patterns in Semantic Web. This post went up tonight; it covers top-down and bottom-up approaches, annotation technologies like RDF and Microformats, Semantic Web for consumers vs. enterprises, Semantic Web APIs, Semantic Search Technologies, Contextual Browsing and Semantic Database - an important range of topics that forms the discussion around Semantic Web.
Please listen to podcast and read the article on ReadWriteWeb and let us know what you think. Tell us what you expect from Semantic Web technologies? Do you think they are revolutionary or just evolutionary? What companies in the space you are excited about?
