Karen and Jeff: “I Write Code”

by Fraser on November 20, 2007 · 6 comments

Nate from NYC’s BricaBox says something important in a post that serves to introduce a (humorous) interview he conducted with his friend/biz partner/CTO of BricaBox Kyle Bragger:

“I really do think we need to feature the “I write code”* guys more. I know it’s “my job” to be a front man, but I think Kyle would do just as good job in the limelight.”

Lately as I’ve blogged and corresponded with people who use our product via email I’ve enjoyed the relationships that have grown with friends like Patrick, Lance, Denis, Stephanie, and so many more. There are times, however, when I find myself feeling that our “I Write Code” rock stars need to be featured more.

Like Nate I realize that we all have our jobs. And yet. Part of the feeling arises because I feel that you’re missing out by not getting to know Karen and Jeff. That’s how great they are. (note: we have an awesome team that you don’t know nearly enough about. Karen and Jeff are the “I Write Code” rock stars, we also have the best/funniest QA expert in Andy and nothing gets more compliments than our design, which is handled by Rion. More on those two later but for now let’s focus on the software engineers).

Karen’s the Director of Engineering and her profile doesn’t capture an ounce of who she is. First, Karen’s brilliant. Even Alex who’s been called a reallysmartguy by a reallysmartguy proudly discusses Karen’s intelligence. On a personal note she loves food, and has the wonderful ability to identify the best restaurants in a new city with ease (a big plus when traveling with her). Karen also has a great sense of humor (something that’s necessary to have in order to work at AdaptiveBlue) and has a love for baseball (we’ll forgive her for liking the Oakland A’s).

Jeff is another AdaptiveBlue “I Write Code” rock star. He’s handled a number of projects that we’ve recently rolled out and that you’re currently enjoying. He also does a great job fixing your issues as soon as they’re identified (shockingly fast turnaround). While he may not be the best roulette player he definitely is passionate about football, is excited to run the NYC marathon, and enjoys chastising/critiquing my choices in television shows.

Anyway, I definitely think that Nate’s onto something - I’d like to see Tara, Josh, David, and others feature their “I Write Code” guys.

Next time you’re surfing the web and AdaptiveBlue brings you mucho benefit take a moment to thank Karen and Jeff - they’re a big reason for creating the benefit that you’re enjoying.

* to appreciate the I Write Code reference, watch the video in Nate’s post.

As a software tester, I find it very frustrating to work with Karen and Jeff because they don’t write enough bugs. Sometimes they make me feel like the Maytag repairman. Come on guys - throw a tester a bone once in a while, why don’t you.

Wow Fraser, that was really nice, thanks!! What a cool thing to come back from vacation to read. I hope I wasn’t too hard on you about that TV show (I won’t out you on this blog) - to be fair, I like a LOT of bad TV, but even that is eclipsed by how much I like bad movies…
