The SmartLinks Launch: A 24hr Recap in 7 Points

Well that was a whirlwind 24 hours :) Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Here’s a few things that had us grinning today:

1) Most of the people involved in the beta test passed along congratulatory emails. How cool is that?* We were flattered.

2) I was impressed, again, with Jennifer Zaino’s coverage. She fully understands our vision and provided one of the best summaries of it in her (must read) post:

“The first time someone anywhere on the web clicks on a SmartLink — say, to a book — AdaptiveBlue processes the underlying page or calls the web operator’s API, depending on what kind of URL it is. Iskold says this builds the groundwork for users elsewhere to leverage AdaptiveBlue’s having collected the semantics of the object and put it in its database. Think of the next steps that can come from knowing that on this page in Amazon there is a book called The Road and on Barnes & Noble there is another page with the same book”

3) As far as I know there was one bug the entire day. Luckily it occurred on my friend Eric’s site and was amazingly fixed by our team in short order (they’re good).

4) Alex asked at one point, “any great coverage that’s surprising?” Bink: Jason Calacanis, the guy who wrote that memorable employment letter to Amanda Congdon, touched 180, has some “older posts that [I've] loved” and quotes Kanye had some very positive things to say about us (I do think he’s missing “personalization” from his list of what’s coming together).

5) Membership in AdaptiveBlue’s Facebook group grew an astonishing 15%.

6) Positive coverage about the SmartLinks and AdaptiveBlue rolled in all. day. long.

7) 24 hours is an incredibly short period of time yet it’s amazing just how much can occur.

*kudos to the first person who guesses the line that I unconsciously sang after writing this.
