We are very pleased to announce that we have moved SmartLinks to the new hosting provide - rackspace. A few weeks ago I asked on LinkedIn What is the best hosting company for dedicated servers out there? An overwhelming number of responses - 19, most saying that rackspace is really the best.
Rackspace is known for its fanatical technical support - this is their tag line, for real. Over the last couple of days that we worked we them, I am happy to confirm that we have no regrets so far. Their level of expertise, management system and the speed of the response are just fantastic. Even though it costs us more money to host on rackspace, so far it looks like a great move.
Along with the move, we have implemented a series of optimizations including caching via memcached. This makes widgets come up much faster (check your blogs!)
Finally, big thanks to Karen for hard work to push this all out and implement caching!

Happy to be on the new servers. This should make things a lot better for all of us.
We don’t anticipate the switch to rackspace to cause any problems for our users, and we’ve done testing to be sure, but if you see any bugs or odd behavior, please let us know.
Thank you, thank you. Sys admin work is always a major drag and this will totally help out. Not to play the gender card, but how many female sys admins have you ever met/known/heard of? We’d totally rather be reading celebrity blogs than mucking around in a linux shell. :)
