Whenever we have a chance to deliver something that community has been asking for a while, we get very excited. Today, we are announcing that Glue will be automatically calculating your Taste Neighbors.
Since we launched GetGlue.com in November of last year, we made it really easy for you to follow your friends from Twitter and Facebook. We did this because we knew that it is important for you to know what books your friends are reading, what movies they are watching and what music they are listening to.
There is always overlap between your tastes and your friends tastes (that’s why you’re friends!). But at the same time, we also knew that the overlap is not always complete. A lot of times my friends like books that I do not like, or movies that are not interesting to me.
Which is why we’re so excited today to announce the availability of Taste Neighbors - a complimentary set of interesting people that you have a lot in common with.
How Taste Neighbors Work
Glue will start calculating the Taste Neighbors for you for each category where you liked 50 or more things. As you like more and more movies, books or music, Glue will be figuring out other Movie Buffs, Book Worms and Radioheads that you match the most. You will see your neighbors in the sidebar of your home and profile pages.
The neighbors shown in the sidebar are you’re overall neighbors, across all categories. These are the other Glue users you have the most in common with. You can click the Neighbors header to navigate to the detailed neighbors screen.
On that screen you will see all of your neighbors broken down by category. So if you want to know who do you have the most movies in common with - or music or books - this is the screen to go to.
We made it easy to subscribe to neighbors. You can look at the list and then decide if you want to subscribe to all of them or individually. We also broke down neighbors into different categories. You can see, for example, who likes similar books or who likes similar movies, which is really handy. So for each category, you can quickly find new people to subscribe to.
The New Things in Common
When you see that your neighbors have many things in common with you, naturally, you’d like to see what those things are. Clicking through the link takes you to a new profile view we created called Things in Common. It is available not just for your neighbor profiles, but on the profile of any other Glue user. To get to this view, visit the profile page, select specific category, like movies or books and then click the Things in Common toggle. On neighbor profiles you will also have a shortcut in the sidebar, under the Things in Common section.
It is fun to run through your friends profiles and check out what you have in common. I’ve done this with a few friends and was quite surprised, so be sure to try it out.
With Taste Neighbors in place, Glue should be much more fun and helpful. Based on your likes, we will find you people with similar interests. If you choose to subscribe to them, you will see the movies, books and music that they are finding around the web. Instant, people-powered suggestions based on your tastes. This is powerful and exciting stuff!
