Last week we announced Guru Giveaways on GetGlue.com - a rewards program from movie studios and book publishers. In this post we will discuss how this program works and what it takes to win free movie tickets and copies of new books.
The Basics
Each current giveaway is focused on a new release - a book, a movie, etc. and is sponsored by a movie studio or a publishers. The studio, publishers and GetGlue crew selects dozens of related things - books, movies, albums, tv shows, video games and topics that are related to the new releases.
For example, for the movie Wolfman, over 70 related objects where selected, ranging from other horror movies, TV Shows about Vampires, like True Blood, books by Stephen King, video games with monsters in them and related topics like Silver Bullet and London.
Selecting the Winners
Only Gurus are eligible to win things. Every weekday there is at least one winner in every giveaway. The winners are selected via a drawing from the set of current Gurus of the related things. For example, for Wolfman, one day a Guru of True Blood might win, another day it could be a Guru of Stephen King’s It and another day it might be the Guru of Silver Bullet.
The Guru of each related object might win only once in a given giveaway. Also, you may win, if you take over the Guru for the object that hasn’t been selected. If the object already been selected and you become a Guru afterward you will not be eligible to win in this giveaway.
Claiming your prize
If you win, you will get an email and also you will get this note on top of your GetGlue home page:
To claim the movie tickets, you will need to enter your email address and to claim a copy of a book, your mailing address. If you for some reason don’t want the prize - please refuse it and it will go back into the pool for someone else to win it.
In addition to getting the prize, the Gurus who win the giveaways are featured on top of Public Stream - so everyone can be both proud and jealous ;)
