Mozilla’s NYC Add-on Meetup

On Tuesday evening we had the pleasure of hosting Mozilla’s NYC Add-on Meetup at our office. It was the first time that add-on developers from the NYC-area met to exchange knowledge and get to know one another.

The presence of  Justin and Rey - key AMO team members - greatly added to the event and we (the collective add-on community) want to thank them for coming in from Mountain View (Justin) and Ft Lauderdale (Rey).

Justin and Rey walked the group through:

  • developer.AMO - what is going to be a fantastic (centralized) resource for add-on developers.
  • Collections - a solid start with more good things coming soon, the Collections feature is helping Firefox users discover gerat add-ons while enabling add-on developers to obtain even better distribution.
  • Contributions - Mozilla’s first foray into enabling developers to generate revenue from their add-ons, the group got an update and overview of the Contributions trial that is underway.

The conversation that occurred around these three presentations was top-notch and Justin and Rey were peppered with questions and insightful feedback.

The evening ended with Shaun from Drop.io presenting on their usage of JavaScript APIs within their Firefox add-on.

It was great to meet everyone and hopefully we can continue to have semi-regular add-on meetups!

Here’s the start of a list of attendees. If you were there leave your info in the comments:

There are others that I’m missing - comment so that I can add you :)
